Step by step
1. Who pays toll?
Starting on 01/01/2010, toll will apply to all motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight over 3.5&tons.
Toll is due for driving on:
— turnpikes and motorways;
— appropriately marked sections of 1st-class roads.
Motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight up to 3.5 tons (regardless of the weight of their trailers) will use time cards.
A vehicle over 3.5 tons with a 2009 time card that will expire during January 2010, will be responsible for paying toll only after the coupon expires.
2. How does it work?
To be able to pay toll, each vehicle over 3.5 tons must be equipped with an onboard tolling unit, which is not transferable to other vehicles.
The toll rate for each section of freeway of highway will be deducted at the toll gate. Rates depend on the roadway class, section length, number of axles and vehicle emission category.
3. How do you pay toll?
There are two options for paying toll:
— prepay at the distribution center;
— postpay, in response to an invoice, on the basis of a contract signed at the contact location or with certain issuers of tanking cards.
nly one of the two options can be used for toll payment. A combination of the two is not available.
Prepay
Prepaid toll is added to the unit before driving on a toll road at distribution or contact points using cash or credit or fuel cards. If an emission category is not specifically indicated, the vehicle will be classified in the Euro 2 category.
Postpay
A previously signed contract is required. Instead of prepaying, the customer is billed regularly for toll that was prescribed for the preceding billing period. The contract can be signed at contact locations or via certain fuel card issuers.
The vehicle operator or statutory representative of the company that is listed in the OR must be present to sign the contract. These persons may be represented by a third party, as long the third party provides the original of a notarized power of attorney.
4. How do I order an onboard unit?
Prepaid onboard units can be obtained at any of the 250 distribution points (generally at service stations) for a returnable deposit of 1,550.00 Kč. You must provide all documentation needed to drive the vehicle. You must charge the prepaid unit with at least 500.00 Kč and maintain it at the prepaid level of credit.
Onboard units paid for on invoice are issued with the signed contract through issuers of fuel cards or at any of fifteen contact points. You must provide all documentation required for signing a contract. Instead of a fuel card, a bank line of credit can be used for the contract. Postpaid onboard units are not charged: toll bills are paid later at the end of each billing period.
5. Unit installation
Installation of the unit is quick and simple, but the instructions in the user guide must be followed carefully.
STARTING ON 01/01/2010, VEHICLES OVER 3.5 TONS MUST PAY TOLL
Starting on 01/01/2010, toll must be paid for operating a vehicle with gross vehicle weight over 3.5 tons on:
— turnpikes and motorways;
— appropriately marked sections of 1st-class roads.
The vehicle must therefore be equipped with an onboard unit.
A vehicle over 3.5 tons with a 2009 time card that will expire on 01/01/2010 will be responsible for paying toll only after the coupon expires.
Motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight under 3.5 tons, regardless of trailer weight) will use 2010 time cards.

Chapter I § 22
(1) Use of a tolled line of land communications by highway motor vehicles with a minimum of four wheels, whose gross vehicle weight exceeds 3.5 tons (further only “vehicle registered in electronic toll system”), is subject to tolls.
(2) Toll amount is determined by means of an electronic tolling system that uses an electronic onboard unit approved by a special law (further only “electronic unit”). The electronic unit must be installed in any vehicle registered in the electronic toll system. The electronic unit is not transferable and may only be used in one particular vehicle registered in the electronic toll system. Toll amount is based on the applicable toll rate and the distance driven on a tolled line of land communication. Toll rates are based on vehicle emission category, number of axles on the vehicle or vehicle combination, time of day, day or season of the year.
